I took this photo of James Harrison as he entered the stadium at the last Steelers home game. Some guys just run out of the tunnel when their name is called. Some guys wave to the crowd or point at the sky. James just walks out like he owns the entire stadium. Attitude!!!
Tuscarora
This is one of the many many waterfalls on the Falls Trail System within Ricketts Glen State Park in Pennsylvania. This is one of 21 waterfalls that are at least fifteen feet tall. Tuscarora is 47 feet tall and is about mid way through the 3-mile hiking loop. Be sure to check out the "how to video" below....sorry about the poor audio.
Abandoned Baptist Church
Short post tonight for a big picture. This is the inside of an abandoned Baptist church in the Pittsburgh area. Jay provided me with the location tip…. Blair, Brad, Dave and I checked it out. What more can I say….big space, big ceiling, big photo.
Thursday Night Football
I thought I would share a few of my favorite photos from the Steelers vs. Ravens game. As you’ll notice, sometimes my favorite photos are not the traditional live action game shots. Some times they’re the “behind the scenes” photos. In fact, some of them are taken with my iPhone.
Don't miss the video I made below from a series of photos I took of a cool leaping touchdown.
Anyway, here you go.
Defense Meets Offense
Unfortunately for the Steelers, the Ravens own this specific battle. Michael Campanaro scored the touchdown on this play by jumping over Antwon Blake. This all took place last night (October 1st) during the Thursday Night game. It was a fun night to be at the game. Because:
· It was a prime time night game. They always seem to have more energy and excitement compared to a normal Sunday afternoon game.
· Jermoe Bettis was honored with his Hall of Fame Ring
· Steelers vs. Ravens is always a tough battle
· The CBS Thursday Night Football reporting crew was on site.
· Andrew McCutchen was in the house
· The weather was perfect football weather
Anyway, it was fun. Have a great weekend.
Lady Liberty
The Statue of Liberty (her real name is “Liberty Enlightening the World”) was dedicated on October 28, 1886. France gave the United States a wonderful gift when they gave this to us. It is a must see for every American. Have you visited this spot? Leave a comment below.
Abandoned Church in Duquesne PA
On Sunday, I went to two churches with Dave, Brad, and Blair. Of course both of the churches were abandoned buildings….but they still count in my mind….does that make me holy? I really doubt it. This photo is from the church in Duquesne PA. It was once a Roman Catholic Slavish Church before it closed.
Great time with the guys photographing and appreciating these old facilities.
Dreaming About Barbados
I’ve gotten used to traveling whenever we have some free time. So when MJ and I have a “long stretch” between trips, I miss it. Now…..I realize that my definition of “long stretch” isn’t the same as most people. I also realize I’m spoiled. I have the opportunity to travel that many people either don’t have or don’t want to do. So I’m not asking for anyone to feel sorry for me. That’s not the point of tonight’s post.
All I’m trying to say is that I’m ready for the next trip and I wish it was right around the corner. So until then, I’m just thinking about some of our recent trips. Thus….Dreaming About Barbados
Puno Cathedral
Every city and town in Peru had at least one big church. The larger cities had at least one big cathedral as well. Most of the churches and cathedrals are positioned in the main square of each town.
In true Peru style, the city of Puno had an old, beautiful cathedral in the main town square. The Cathedral Basilica of St. Charles Borromeo (also known as Puno Cathedral) is an Andean Baroque cathedral built in 1757.
The cathedral was always locked up until mass. So I tried my best not to interrupt the service, but capture some photos at the same time. I loved the inside of this facility, the shadows created by the lighting and the colors. I hope you like it as well.
Colin Kaepernick
I had a great time photographing the Steelers vs. 49ers game yesterday. We had great weather and I enjoyed seeing the 49ers in person. I can’t claim I had a great photography day. I didn’t really get any photos that I thought were great. It seemed like all the great plays happened where I wasn’t or the harsh sun ruined some photos. I don’t know. I just wasn’t happy with 99.9% of the photos I took at the game. Weird how that happens some times.
Anyway, today’s post is of #7 Colin Kaepernick, the 6’ 4”, 230 lbs quarterback for the San Francisco 49ers. A very talented and sometimes troubled player during his time with SF. Regardless, I was happy for the chance to see him play in person. Some of my favorite photos from the games are the sideline shots. I took this shot in the 2nd half right after he threw a touchdown pass.
Detroit Abandonment
It’s been over a year since Jay and I went to Detroit to conduct a little Urbex. We had a great time and explored a bunch of buildings. This one is from the Packard Plant. What an amazing location with building after building.
I hope you have a great weekend and enjoy the fall weather before it gets to cold outside.
Shirt Tail
I will be photographing the Pittsburgh Steelers vs. San Francisco 49ers this weekend at Heinz Field. I’ve had a rough week physically with some minor issues, so I hope I feel better by Sunday. Regardless, I’ll go and have a great time watching two great teams fight it out.
So thinking about the upcoming weekend got me thinking about the last game I shot, which was the Steelers vs. the Packers. So I decided to post a photo from that game. I love this photo and processed it a little different then normal. I converted everything to black and white except of #27 Eddie Lacy and the Steelers defensive player who has him by the Shirt Tail.
Machu Picchu's Neighbors
Sorry I’ve been absent from the blog lately. The reason…..I was traveling to Michigan for some shipwreck scuba diving with some friends.
Anyway, tonight I have a picture from Machu Picchu. The entire abandoned city is surrounded by these amazing mountain peaks. In a weird way, the mountain peaks are neighbors to this Inca mountain top city.
All Smiles, All The Time
I don’t think I’ve ever been around someone who smiles as much as Antonio Brown. Seriously, every time I see him in person prior to games, during the games, between plays, during plays, after the games, etc…. He is always smiling!
Either he is a huge fake, which I doubt, or he just enjoys his life. I can’t claim to be his friend, we’ve exchanged words in short interactions, but he doesn’t even know my name. But my gut tells me he’s just a good guy, who is always happy. And my gut is usually right.
Getting Exposure
I don't know how my photos end up in some places, but they seem to spread easily. Here is another example. Without knowing about it, the person who owns the "Beautiful Pictures" Twitter account shared my photo. Weird, but I'm glad the pictures are appreciated.
Pittsburgh Sunset
I understand this is an usual sunset photo. But it is in fact a sunset pic. I took this while on a photo walk with Jay, Brad, and Dave. We were taking photos along the train tracks as the sun set behind us with the sun reflecting off the buildings. I processed this photo a couple of times until I got a version that I liked.
Have a great Labor Day.
One last thing...don't for get to click on the photo below to see it in a larger format. This small version doesn't do it justice.
#56 Julius Peppers
Here is another football photo for you today. This is Julius Peppers, the Right Outside Linebacker for the Green Bay Packers. Julius played a number of years in Chicago before he left for Green Bay.
I can’t tell you what it is about this picture that I like, but I just keep coming back to it again and again. So I’m sharing it with you. I hope you like it as much as I do.
Falling Water
Tonight’s post is of Frank Lloyd Wright’s Falling Water home in rural southwestern Pennsylvania. It was originally built for the Kaufmann family, who owned a department store in downtown Pittsburgh back in the 1930s. This home is built over a waterfall on Bear Run in the Mill Run section of Fayette County in the Laurel Highlands area of the Allegheny Mountains.
The home is listed on Smithsonian's Life List of places "to visit before you die". It is also a National Historic Landmark.
We had some friends in for the weekend, so we visited this site and the Andy Warhol Museum in downtown Pittsburgh.
Surprise Fireworks
A while back I went on a photo walk with Brad, Dave, and Jay along the train tracks in front of Station Square. We were attempting to get some great cityscape photos from that angle. Jay and I stayed out a little bit later than Brad and Dave. So Jay and I just packed up our gear for the night, when out of the blue fireworks starting going off in front of Heinz Field. Why???? Honestly, I don’t know since nothing was going on in the stadium or in town. So we unpacked our gear and tried to capture a few photos before they stopped.
This is a photo from that night.
All Pro QB
NFL Preseason isn’t the most exciting time of year, but it was a treat getting a close look at Aaron Rodgers. It isn’t always worth it going to preseason games. Many times the starters play little, if at all. The teams don’t try hard all of time and they don’t use all of the plays in their playbook. Frankly, these games are a waste of time from a fan and players perspective. But they continue to make the owners a ton of money, since the fans still have to pay full price for a poor product. In fact, season ticket holders are forced to purchase these games if they want their season tickets.
Anyway, I based my decision on whether to photograph the games based on who the visiting team is and whether or not I’ll get a reasonable shot at seeing them in the game. So last weekend, I decided to go see the Steelers vs. Packers. Why? Because the Packers rarely come to Pittsburgh and Aaron was going to play a little in the first quarter. So I photographed the first half, while the starters were playing. I was happy I got a chance to see Aaron. Regardless for how I feel about Green Bay Packers, I respect him as a person and quarterback. Therefore, tonight’s post after a long absence is of #12, THE Aaron Rodgers.
