As I process photos, I jump around. I almost never process all the photos from one location all in a row. I’ll process some from NYC, then Peru, then Pittsburgh, etc…. I like the variety and it keeps me from processing a location the same way. Plus it is a nice reminder to me as I process photos how wonderful my travels have been. I don’t forget the trips as fast and I can relive the moments. Well tonight’s photo is from the top of Rockefeller Center in Manhattan. MJ was a super trooper. She displayed amazing patience as we stayed on the top of this skyscraper for almost 3 hours as we waited for the sunset and stayed up there long afterward.
Carrie Furnace Stack
Today a few of us rented the Carrie Furnace so we’d have the place to ourselves to get access to photograph this great place. It is the last remaining blast furnace left in the Pittsburgh area from the steel industry that has been gone for a long time. It was originally part of the Homestead Steel Works. It was built in 1884 and closed in 1982. Back in the day, it produced over 1,000 tons of iron per day that was sent across the hot metal bridge to another plant that turned it into steel. This photo is on the backside of the plant looking up at some of the metal structure.
Pittsburgh City Hall
This is also known as City-County Building. It was built from 1915 to 1917 and was designed by renowned architect Henry Hornbostel. This is the main hall as you enter the building. To keep the public out of my photo, I just tilted the camera up to avoid them. The only problem with that is that you don’t get to see the amazing lower third of the building. You’ll have to trust me that it is just as cool as the top portion.
Mr. Brady
I enjoyed the opportunity to photograph the Steelers vs. Patriots yesterday. This was my first game with the Patriots and I loved it. Regardless of your opinion of Brady or the Patriots, you have to admit they are good. I appreciate his greatness.
Valley Brook Country Club
Here is another photo from my photo shoot at the beautiful Valley Brook Country Club. I was honored to be approached by them to photograph their new green, which they’ll open next year. I thought this photo did a good job of capturing this amazing spot.
Red Hole #3
Tonight I got the opportunity to photography the brand new Red Hole #3 at Valley Brook Country Club. It’s so new that it won’t even be open until spring of 2017. As you can see, it is a beautiful setting. What a great opportunity, wonderful location and beautiful photo!!
Pennsylvanian Ball Room
This building is usually very restrictive when it comes to photographers. But a few weeks back, the “Open Doors Pittsburgh” event allowed the public to have access to buildings that are normally off limits. So I took advantage of that situation and captured some great photos all over downtown Pittsburgh.
This building used to be the train and bus station back in the day. Today is has a number of executive apartments inside it and some of the larger common spaces are used as event locations. So this former bus/train terminal is now a wedding reception venue. I love it.
Blood Moon Over Pittsburgh
Tonight, Blair and I went into the city to meet Brad for a photo walk. Except we really didn’t walk anywhere. We met at the Duquesne Incline to photograph the city with the super moon rising over the city. It seems like a waste of time because there were to many clouds. But all of a sudden, it popped out and we got a brief show.
Glade Creek Grist Mill
MJ, Blair and I went down to southern West Virginia to see this mill in Babcock State Park. We were hoping for some good fall foliage and got a little of it. But not full peak color. We were probably a week to early. Regardless, we had a good time and I enjoyed seeing this spot.
The Vault
This former bank vault is now a dinning room for 12 people inside the Pittsburgh Engineer’s Building in the downtown area. A few weeks ago, Pittsburgh held an event called “Open Door Pittsburgh”. Basically this meant that there were around 30 buildings that are not normally open to the public, open to the public on this day. Some of the buildings had guided tours and others were just self-guided tours of the spaces. The Vault caught my eye on the marketing material, so I made sure we hit that spot first.
Sammie Coates
Today’s blog post is of the Pittsburgh Steelers’ Sammie Coates. Sammie is in his 2nd NFL season as a wide receiver after leaving Auburn University to enter the draft. He has a ton of potential, but needs to consistently catch the ball. Regardless, I liked this photo of him from last Sunday’s game against the New York Jets.
Daryl Richardson
Today’s picture is from last Sunday’s game (Steelers vs. Bengals). This is Daryl Richardson, the backup running back. He’ll have a hard time getting any playing time behind Williams and Bell. Regardless, I liked this photo of him I captured. Have a great Saturday.
Cathedral of Santa Maria Del Fiore
Unfortunately like many popular spots, there were tourists all over the place. So I aimed the camera up a little to avoid all the people standing between the Cathedral and I. By the way, this Cathedral is located in Florence Italy. This is a great spot with a nice courtyard in front of the church. They started building this facility in 1296 and finished it in 1436. As you can tell, it was a small construction project since it took them 140 to complete it.
The Man!!
I took this photo of Antonio Brown last Sunday during the game against the Chiefs. I liked how this turned out with the 3D type appearance and the intense look of concentration on his face. I don’t know about you, but he’s the best thing on the Steelers team.
Tyreek Hill Scores
The weather was terrible at the Steelers vs. Chiefs game last Sunday night. It rained and rained all night long. The good news is that it didn’t rain as hard as the last home game. So there was that.
Anyway, tonight’s photo is of Kansas City Chief’s Tyreek Hill as he dove for the touchdown. I’ll probably be the only person who likes it, but that’s okay. Well, I bet Tyreek Hill will like it as well.
Peruvian Jewelry
Today’s photo is from Puno Peru on the coast of Lake Titicaca. There are handmade by a local tribe who live out on the lake. They had a number of different handcrafts for sale. These caught my eye, thus we have this photo today. Have a great Sunday.
Josh and Lacey
I’ve never met Josh and Lacey, but they have a great future together. They’re getting married on June 27, 2017 in Pittsburgh. They wanted to use a couple of my photos for their wedding website. It was an honor communicating with Josh about their big day and being able to help them. You can see the website here: https://laceyandjoshwed.squarespace.com/when-where/#june-24-2017
Josh and Lacey, good luck and enjoy the ride!
Sunrise In The City
Blair and I went into the city (Pittsburgh) before sunrise last Sunday to capture some images. Unfortunately, it wasn’t the best day for it since the sky was completely free of clouds. It’s a tricky thing. There is a fine line between the right amount of clouds and to many clouds. But on this morning, we didn’t get any clouds. So I made the best of it with the pre-sunrise color in the sky.
DeAngelo Williams
I captured this photo of DeAngelo two weekends ago prior to the Steelers vs. Bengals game. It rained all day, which kept some people under cover. But I got this wonderful action shot of him catching a pass during the warm up.
The Point
Dave, Blair and I went up to Mt. Washington a week ago to capture some photos after work. Today’s photo is from that outing. I liked the blue color of the sky just before sunset.
