Faces Of The Game

One of the things I like about sports and photographing sports is the emotion involved.  Everything from extremely happy to extreme sad.  The full range emotions are on display throughout every game.

Here are a few photos from last Sunday’s game (Steelers at Bills) that display what I’m talking about.

Governor's Visit

I never post anything about work, but we held a special event this week.  We had the honor of hosting PA Governor Tom Wolf at our COVID Vaccine clinic this week.  Following the tour, there was a press conference where Governor Wolf, PA State Representative Tim O’Neil and I all spoke.

Prior to the event, I awarded the first ever WHS Presidential Achievement coins to 18 WHS Team Members for their outstanding performance throughout the pandemic.  Not only did the Governor mention and congratulate each of them by name in his remarks, but he was very gracious with his time.  After the press conference, we went over and thanked each of them and posed for photos.  It was a great day for the Washington Health System.

William Gay

All the NFL teams are in training camp getting ready for their first preseason games.  William Gay was a staple of the Steelers defense for years.  This year he signed an agreement to play with the New York Giants.  I wish him luck.  He was a colorful player with the Steelers during my time covering the team.  I took this photo of him last season.

Spreading Salt

Like many areas of the country today, we got a little bit of snow (maybe 3 inches).  So I took advantage of the situation and got outside to capture some winter photos, including some drone photography…..  This is a photo of our home with Blair spreading salt on the driveway (look closely).

Gator

During a recent trip to Florida, MJ and I went to the Everglades National Park for our first time.  I have no idea how many times we’ve been to Florida in the past…. But the number of visits is way up there.  Maybe 50 plus times…..  I’m not sure… let’s just call it a bunch.  So why it took so long for us to visit the Everglades is beyond me.  We enjoyed the visit and I took this photo of this gator that climbed out of the water about 15 feet from us.  It decided to sun itself and left us alone…and we left it alone.

Daryl Richardson

Today’s picture is from last Sunday’s game (Steelers vs. Bengals).  This is Daryl Richardson, the backup running back.  He’ll have a hard time getting any playing time behind Williams and Bell.  Regardless, I liked this photo of him I captured.  Have a great Saturday.

ATM Art

I’ve got a great relationship with Washington Financial bank.  They’ve been a good client and have used my photos for years.  I captured this photo (with my iPhone) after using the ATM machine last weekend.  It’s always great seeing my photos put to good use and I love what they did with this photo that I took a few years ago.

Larry Fitzgerald

What a great person, football player and humanitarian.  I’ve enjoyed watching him play for years and it was nice getting to meet him last season.  After watching some of the NFL Draft last night, it had me longing for the 2016 season to start.  And that got me posting this photo tonight of the great #11.

Barbados Turtle

One of the wonderful activities that is very easy to do in Barbados (with or without a tour guide) is to snorkel with turtles.  There are lots of tour companies who will pick you up, put you on a boat, give you snorkeling gear, put guides in the water, provide lunch, provide drinks, etc….  Or you can take your own gear, do a little research, and just swim out from the beach.

While we were in Barbados, we snorkeled with turtles using both methods.  I had a great time both times.  So tonight I am sharing one of my photos from snorkeling with the Barbados turtles.  I think his/her name should be Crush, which was the name of the turtle in Finding Nemo.

Polamalu

This is a big NFL football weekend.  Normally, I don’t care much about week 17 because lets face it…by now my Detroit Lions are normally looking forward to the next draft, not to the playoffs.  This year is finally different.  Not only are the Detroit Lions in the playoffs for a change, but the week 17 game against Green Bay determines the division winner and who gets the 1st round playoff bye.   So you can imagine my excitement…..

For the Steelers fans, this week’s game against the Cincinnati Bengals is a big game as well.  The winner of that game becomes the division champion too.  So today’s picture is the future Hall Of Famer safety Troy Polamalu.

Go Lions!!!

Vizio BCS Football National Championship Game

So I’ll give you my projection now….big shocker…I will pick Florida State University with their 2013 Heisman Trophy Winner Jameis Winston to win (34 FSU to 20 Auburn).  I just can’t see Auburn beating FSU in this game.  Auburn is good, but they’ve gotten lucky through the year as well and luck runs out.  FSU just out played everyone all year long.  Below are a few pictures I took of Jameis Winston on their first game of the year against Pitt.  Enjoy the Championship Game.

Cruise Ship / Model Composite

Last week I was looking at photos on 500px.com, which isn’t uncommon for me.  To my surprise I saw a picture that looked very familiar…… And it was.  It turns out a photographer from Ukraine named Mikhail Benkovich used my HDR cruise ship photo.  He combined my photo with a photo he took of this model to create an HDR composition.

I was pissed at first that he would steal my photo without permission.  So I took a deep breath and contacted Mikhail directly about the situation.  To his credit it admitted it and we worked out a little partnership.  He modified the photo to give me credit and linked it to my site.  So tonight I am posting the photo and linking to his site.  After cooling off and communicating with Mikhail, I’ve gone from pissed off to being happy with how he took my great photo and merged it together with his great photo.  To see more of his work, click here: http://500px.com/MikhailBenkovich
