Here is another photo from the abandoned Pennsylvania State Correctional Institution (SCI) Cresson. I assume this was a medical clinic exam room???? If not, I don’t want to know what happened in this room over time.
Wine With A View
I captured this photo on our last trip to Michigan (October 2020). We visited a small handful of vineyards (all outdoor activities only at tables/chair sitting far apart) including this location. This specific winery had this unique view out the back of the building. The vineyard is called Hawthorne Vineyards, which sits on Old Mission Peninsula near Traverse City.
Need A Chair?
This is my 3rd photo in a row featuring “water” as the main element. I didn’t plan to create this trend, but I’ll keep it going tonight.
I took this photo four Mexico trips back (I think....). I love these quiet mornings on the beach before 99.9% of the other guest are awake. I usually have the entire environment to myself and I can have any chair I want!!

The Chair
How creepy is this spot??? Super creepy, if you ask me. I took this photo inside a school nurse’s office at an abandoned elementary school. Here is my question….why would an elementary school nurse’s office need an adult medical chair? Now that is creepy!!

Weird
This beauty is from our Motown Urbex trip earlier this year. This was the second time I’d been to this site. I don’t remember this orange chair in the past, but it made for a nice focal point in this photo. I love the graffiti on the back wall as well.

Prison Gym
On November 4th and 9th, I posted photos from this abandoned state prison. Tonight’s post is the gym within the prison. I loved the lighting in this gym and how the sun shining through the windows onto the floor help add so much interest to it.

Bando Fun
I hope everyone in the United States enjoyed the Labor Day weekend. We hung out with family, relaxed and got a little Urban Exploration in while the family was here. We visited a number of cool abandoned buildings. Isn’t that what you do with your visiting family…take them to abandoned buildings?

Got Chair
Is it just me, or does this red chair look like it has the Detroit Red Wings logo on it??? I took this photo inside the abandoned china factory outside of Pittsburgh. This is a great bando spot.

The Chair
A few of the guys and I went out to capture some urbex photography today. The weather was perfect and we hit up a couple nice spots. I captured this image at our first stop. This creepy chair was the only reason we even went to this location…and guess what, it was worth it. What do you think?

Prison Life
I needed to be in the Philadelphia area Monday morning so I
drove over Sunday. That saved me
driving 11 hours (over and back) all in one day. MJ had to work all day anyway, so I left early in the
morning so I could visit the Eastern State Penitentiary (ESP). This is a site I’ve wanted to visit for
some time.
The prison opened in 1829 and was the first true prison built in the world. Prior to this, all prisons where just large holding bays where the inmates were all grouped together (men, women, and children). It was designed to not only punish, but to inspire the criminal toward spiritual reflection and change. Every cell was intended to be solitary confinement. They never wanted the inmate to have contact with another person, including guards during the criminals stay. Inmates were hooded whenever they were outside their cells and exposed to complete silence.
The design and concept was so novel, that more then 300 prisons in South America, Europe, Russia, China, Japan and England were based on this design and operational plan. Toward the end of its use, the old prison needed expensive repairs. The Commonwealth of Pennsylvania closed the facility in 1971, 142 years after it accepted Charles Williams (Prisoner #1). The facility sat abandoned for 20 years before the city turned it over to the Eastern State Penitentiary Historic Site Inc.. Today thousands of visitors tour the site every year as a ruin and historical site.
One of the famous inmates was Al “Scarface” Capone. I may post a picture of his cell at a later day. They have it restored to how it looked when he used it.

Today’s Photo:
I took this spooky photo using auto-bracketing to capture 7 exposures. I merged them together in Photomatix Pro to get my base HDR image. Then I edited it in Photoshop CS6 to finish the picture. I’ve seen others post a picture of this room before in the past. Something about that single barber’s chair in this dark room that makes this image feel evil.
Additional Note:
One of my photos will be featured on this website today: http://worldisbeautiful.net/photo/2013/6/10/
