More Detroit Lions

One day after the terrible game between the Steelers and Lions, I have some more photos for you.  These are focused on my Detroit Lions.

Steelers vs Lions

Here are a few photos from today’s game. (Heinz Field – November 14, 2021).  It was a cold, wet, and ugly game.  Neither team desired to win and neither one of them did.

Detroit Urbe Reflections

Happy Friday night.  Here is a 2018 throw back from a Detroit urban exploration photo weekend.  I captured this photo upstairs in the Cadillac Stamping plant after it rained hard.  I loved the refection of all the plumbing, metal work and industrial machinery.

Detroit Glory

This abandoned automotive factory is a wonderful explore.  I’ve been there a couple of times and would go back again.  It isn’t as big as the abandoned Packard Plant, but it is massive in its own right and there was a section full of unopened hockey sports cards….

Stafford to Abdullah

Another NFL throwback for you.  Here is a photo I took at Ford Field in 2018 of Matthew Stafford handing the ball to Ameer Abdullah.  I don’t remember for sure, but I think my Lions lost this game.  Not that the Lions losing is an unusual event.

Detroit's Eastern Market

I know that others like great graffiti art like I do, but we’re probably in the minority across the population.  Of course, everyone hates bad graffiti, basic “tags” or just people tagging any random building, wall, etc...  But great graffiti is as good as fine art, just on a larger scale in a public location.  So, if you like that type of thing, Detroit’s Eastern Market and Miami’s Wynwood Walls are amazing spots for this.  This photo is from the Eastern Market area of Detroit.  They host an international graffiti festival every year where they feature some of the world’s best.  This specific painting would probably fall into the Pop Culture art category, similar to Peter Max and others who work in this art genre.  Sorry I don’t know the name of the artist who completed this painting.

Flying Bell

Tonight, I have a 2017 flashback for you.  As a Detroit Lions fan, I loved photographing the Steelers at Ford Field.  I got to the game about 7 hours early, just to explore the stadium, and photograph it without any people around.  I captured more Lions photos then I did Steelers photos….but that was to be expected. Of all the photos from that day, I’ve always liked this one of Le’Veon Bell flying through the air.

Detroit Reflections

Long before our current worldwide lock down…..  a few of us went to Detroit to explore some abandoned buildings.  This is from one of the abandoned auto manufacturing facilities.  It rained hard the day before and that morning, which made for some great puddle reflections.  This was from the attic space in the large factory.  I loved the freight elevator in the background.

Cadillac Stamping Plant

I hope everyone is safe out there….  We’re doing our best to follow the rules (stay home, etc…).  Of course, I am still going to work and helping a wonderful team deal with the world-wide crisis.

It’ll be a long time (I think it could months yet…maybe into the fall) before we’ll be allowed to return to normal.  So, I’m preparing myself mentally for that potential outcome.  One technique I’m going to use is my photography.  It’s great during normal times to help reduce my stress, so I’ll continue to use it.  Each photo reminds me of a trip, location or photo op from a safer time in our world history.

This photo is from a prior trip to Detroit, when a small group of us explored a few wonderful sites.

Ford Field

I love my Detroit Lions, but I can honestly say we’ll never see anything called the “NFL Super Bowl Detroit Lions” in this building or any other.  We won’t see any banners hanging from this ceiling more recent then the 1957 Championship banner for many, many years.  Probably long after I’m gone from this world.  So the question is why does anyone, including me, continue to cheer for this franchise?  I don’t have an answer to that question…..  They’re just my team…  It is, what is it!!

Bradley Elementary

It’s been a while since my last Detroit Urbex trip.  Way to long, but I still have tons of great shots from the last time.  This is from within Bradley Elementary.  I’m not sure if this was an office or a small science classroom.  Regardless, I loved the fire place in this old structure.
