Flight 93 Museum

I’ve been holding this photo back for some time.  I have no reason why.  I loved the leading lines and the design of this structure.  This is the entrance to the Flight 93 Museum outside of Pittsburgh.  The building is great but the material inside is powerful and sad stuff.

Never Forget!!

We’ve been to the 9/11 memorial in Manhattan, but we haven’t visited the Flight 93 Memorial, which is an hour from our house…. until recently.  It was pretty incredible and worth the visit.  It’s a nice tribute to the innocent lives lost on that flight and an emotional time.  I’m always touched by these moments and memories.

This is a photo I took of the memory wall inside the Flight 93 Memorial Museum.  It lists every individual who died at the Twin Towers, Pentagon and on Flight 93…

Memorial Amphitheater

This cool little spot…well it isn’t really a small place, is within Arlington National Cemetery near The Tomb of the Unknown Soldier.  I had no idea it existed until we found it by mistake.  I assume they use if for performances, if not what a shame.  They (we the people of the United States) clearly spent a ton of money building this great theater.

Allegheny Cemetery

Its Memorial Day tomorrow here in the United States.  Most Americans use this three-day weekend to travel, hang out with friends, grill out and just have fun.  It’s become the unofficial start of summer vacation season for most Americans.  It was setup as a Federal holiday to remember individuals who died while serving in the military.  So regardless of your plans this weekend, have a great time.

Today’s photo is from the Allegheny Cemetery is Pittsburgh.  I love this castle looking structure at the entrance of the cemetery.

I hope you have a great Martin Luther King Jr. Day.  With all the ugliness in our world right now (you know who and what I mean), it’s nice to know that Dr. King and people like Dr. King have been and are among us.  He pushed for nonviolence, racial equality, understanding, and eliminating poverty while maintaining his principles that everyone regardless of color or creed are equal members of the human family.  There is a reason why he is the only non-president to have a national holiday dedicated in his honor and non-president memorialized on the Great Wall in the United States capital.  Everyone from our current President on down to our newest member, can learn from Dr. King.

9/11 Memorial

I realize this is a late in the day post.  Sometimes life, work, and Baldrige gets in the way of fun.  So…on September 11th, a day no American will ever forget, I am sharing my photo from the 9/11 Memorial site.

South Pool

On our last trip to NYC, we visited the 9/11 Memorial site for the first time.  I captured a ton of photos from every angle trying to capture this wonderful memorial….at least until the anti-tripod police stopped me.

This is a “must see” location for every American.

MLK & Washington Monument

It is almost time for my annual pilgrimage into Washington D.C. for the Baldrige Examiner training.  While I am there, I try to get into the city to photograph as much as possible.  That’s my plan this year as well, along with having dinner with my cousin Eric.  Should be fun.

This photo is from last year’s trip.  As you can tell, this is the Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial with the Washington Monument in the background.

Veterans Day

Today is Veterans Day in the United States of America, which is a national holiday to honor people who have served in the U.S. Armed Forces.    It coincides with Armistice Day and Remembrance Day, which are celebrated in other parts of the world.  It also marks the anniversary of the end of World War I, which ended at the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month in 1918.

I am thankful to everyone who currently serves and has served our country in the past.  With that, I’ll stop and let this photo of the Vietnam Memorial speak for itself.

Honest Abe

It’s been a long couple of weeks lately and today was tough.  We lost a family pet today due to a tumor.  I’ll stop there with that subject.

So here is a quick post tonight.  The Lincoln Memorial is one of my favorite monuments in Washington D.C.  Something about his statute looking down at you is impressive.  I also love all the details built into the statute and the surrounding structure.

Jefferson Memorial Sunset

I took this 7-exposure auto bracket HDR image at the end of April while I was in the Washington DC area.  I traveled into downtown DC every night to visit with friends and photograph some wonderful places.  I’ve always enjoyed sunsets around the Jefferson Memorial and Tidal Basin.

Martin Luther King Jr. Monument

Well it is pretty clear where I took this photo.  I have been in the Washington DC area all week for Baldrige Examiner Training.  Every night after training ends, I’ve been running into the downtown area to photograph some of the sites.  I also had dinner Tuesday night with an old friend (Julie Briggs), her husband Todd, and their daughter Natalie.  It was nice catching up with them.

This was my first time at the Martin Luther King Jr. Monument.

Lincoln Memorial

I took this picture last year while I was in Washington DC for Baldrige Examiner training.  I wanted to post something tonight from an area I haven’t shared with you recently.  So I went back in time….at least a little bit.

When I showed this picture to MJ tonight, she called it a “Brook Picture”…..whatever that means.  Hopefully that’s a good thing.  It really doesn’t matter, because I like the picture.

Facts about the Lincoln Memorial:

Built to honor our 16th President….shocker right?????

Architect of building (Greek Doric Temple style): Henry Bacon

Sculptor of statue: Daniel Chester French

Dedicated in 1922

Facts about my picture:

HDR final image was created with three auto-bracketed images of +1, 0, -1 exposure values (EV).

You can see the original three photos displayed at the bottom.

I merged the images together using Photomatix Pro and then I edited the photo within Photoshop CS6.
