I took this photo post game at Heinz Field in 2019. It was nice capturing Pittsburgh Steelers Head Coach Mike Tomlin and Seattle Seahawks Quarterback Russell Wilson chatting with each other. You could tell there was mutual respect between them.
1933
Something different for you tonight. I’ve been on a roll of posting dark photos lately. Anyway, here is a Mike Tomlin photo for you from last season. It was the NFL’s 150th anniversary last year, therefore they had all teams wear gear with the year they were created….. For the Pittsburgh Steelers it’s 1933.

I’ll keep the football theme going for the 3rd straight day. Here is a photo of the Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin from November. I captured this during pregame from the field as Mike walked around talking to his players.

Goff Sack
I haven’t had time to process the photos from last night’s game yet. In the meantime, here is one I captured of Jared Goff getting sacked by Mike Hilton. After this play, Goff left the game for a few plays while he got his physical health in order. This isn’t a great sports photo following all the traditional photography rules… meaning you can’t see their faces or even see much of Mike Hilton. But I can’t help but love the photo based on the position of Goff in mid-air.

Tomlin and Wilson
Here is a post-game photo of Mike Tomlin and Russell Wilson as they discussed the game and wished each other well….. Sometimes I like these types of photos more then the action photo. I like the human element of it.
Agony of Defeat
What an interesting situation yesterday after the Steelers defeated the Bengals. The Steelers needed to win their game and they needed the Browns to defeat the Ravens, in order to make the NFL Playoffs. As it turned out the Steelers game ended earlier then the Browns/Ravens game. Many of the Steelers’ players and coaches stayed on the field to watch the end of the other game on the stadium big screen. It seemed like every fan stayed in their seats to do the same thing. It was so weird hearing a stadium full of Steelers fans cheering for the Cleveland Browns. Unfortunately, it didn’t turn out well for the Browns or Steelers…. Below are some photos from that moment.

Happy Thursday!! I hope you had a great day. I’m ready for Friday and the start of the weekend. I have some chores to do. Otherwise, my only “to do” this weekend is to photograph the Steelers game against the Chargers on Sunday night. So until then, here is a photo I took of Mike Tomlin earlier this year.

Tomlin
There are some coaches that are just intimidating based on how they look at people. Mike Tomlin is one of those guys. He just has “the look”. Now I must say, he is very nice and engaging person, but I don’t want “the look” aimed at me.
Note: I took this photo last week during the Steelers vs. Titans game.

Mike Mitchell
I’m not sure the status of Mike at this point. I think the Steelers released him in March to avoid his salary cap hit with their roster. So, I think he is currently a free agent…. I haven’t heard of him signing with another team, but I couldn’t find anything about him. During pre-game, when the Steelers would announce the defensive player, he would always wear a Terrible Towel over this face like this. It was sort of his trademark.

Tomlin
The interesting thing about Tomlin is that most Steelers’ fans want him fired. I don’t get it. I’m not a Steelers’ fan, so maybe I don’t understand. But all he’s done has win, win, and win some more. Heck, he’s won a super bowl! As a Lions fan, I’d take those results. Anyway, I don’t understand, but I have a guess. I’m not going to get into that on this blog. We can save that a face-to-face discussion.

Mike Davis
I know he isn’t a household name and you’ve probably never heard of him before. He played college football at the University of South Carolina and is a rookie for the San Francisco 49ers. Regardless, I liked this action photo.
Scroll down to see a close up version of this, which I also like.
Close up of the prior image.... I like this version as well.
2014-2015 NFL - My Favorite Photos Of The Year
Well, my football season is done in more ways than one. The Detroit Lions lost their playoff game….which is typical. They succeed in finding ways to lose. And since the Pittsburgh Steelers lost, my photography season is done as well.
So I thought I’d do a quick recap and share some of my favorite photos from the season. Here are the games I photographed:
Cleveland Browns – Sept. 7th
Houston Texans – Oct. 20th
Indianapolis Colts – Oct. 26th
New Orleans Saints – Nov. 30th
Kansas City Chiefs – Dec. 21st
Cincinnati Bengals – Dec. 28th
Baltimore Ravens – Jan. 3rd
In the previous season, it seemed like we had all kinds of bad weather. So before the 2014-2015 season started, I purchased some good camera rain covers. That must have worked, because we were very lucky this season. The weather was perfect (or better then you could expect) for every game. I put the rain covers on a few times, but that was more for precautions.
Favorite interactions of the season. Without getting into the details, I had some good interactions/conversations with Brett Keisel, Antonio Brown and Adam Vinatieri.
And finally, here is a link (the picture of Mike Tomlin below is the link) to some of my favorite photos from the season…. Now before you click the photo below to see the gallery, here are a few things to remember:
1. I like too many of them, so reducing the list down to something reasonable didn’t happen. My goal was to select 5 or fewer photos from each game…. I totally failed and couldn’t narrow them down to my goal.
2. I picked pictures that included more then just live action game shots. For example, I picked some photos of the crowd, reporters, and other non-football players…. Sometimes because there was a story behind the photo. Sometimes because I think the activities going on around the game are as interesting as the game.
Anyway, I hope you enjoy the photos. Until next season…..when I hope the Lions learn how to win games against good teams……
Arian Foster (#23) vs. Mike Mitchell (#23)
Guess which guy won this battle? Yup.... You’re right….it was number 23. Arian Foster broke away from Safety Mike Mitchell for a 10 yard run.
I like this photo from last Monday, because of the expression on Arian’s face as Mike’s hands are around his neck. Football photography is extremely challenging and it is very hard to get a shot where you can see the player’s face due to the helmet and facemask. So when the stars align and I get one like this…..it just draws me in. What do you think? Leave a comment below.
