Buccaneers

I covered the Steelers’ first pre-season game of the year last night against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.  The game wasn’t super exciting and I had some rust that needs to be shaken off before the regular season starts.  That being said, I got some good photos.  Since it was a preseason game and most of the starters didn’t play, I spent some time capturing elements around the game like this helmet.  I need to remember to take more shots of things like this vs. just live action shots of the players.

Steelers & Lions Joint Practice

I had a great experience today.  I was given the opportunity to photograph the Pittsburgh Steelers and Detroit Lions joint practice at Saint Vincent College in Latrobe Pennsylvania.  I’ll also be shooting their preseason game on Friday night, but capturing images of the practice was cool.  It’s a different environment from the games and it was great getting to experience it.

As most people know, I’m a Lions fan.  Unfortunately, watching the teams practice against each other today, showed me how much better the Steelers are compared to the Lions.  I’d like to say it was the other way around, but….  That’s just not the case.  The Steelers looked better in just about every drill.  I’ll just have to hope this practice wasn’t an accurate reflection of how the Lions season will play out.

About this photo:  As you can guess, it is the great Antonio Brown from today’s practice.  It looks like a studio photo with the clean, clear background.  But that’s just how it came out with a cloudless sky today.  It’s not the typical sports photo, which is why I like it.  What do you think?  Do you like or dislike it?

All Pro QB

NFL Preseason isn’t the most exciting time of year, but it was a treat getting a close look at Aaron Rodgers.  It isn’t always worth it going to preseason games.  Many times the starters play little, if at all.  The teams don’t try hard all of time and they don’t use all of the plays in their playbook.  Frankly, these games are a waste of time from a fan and players perspective.  But they continue to make the owners a ton of money, since the fans still have to pay full price for a poor product.  In fact, season ticket holders are forced to purchase these games if they want their season tickets.

Anyway, I based my decision on whether to photograph the games based on who the visiting team is and whether or not I’ll get a reasonable shot at seeing them in the game.  So last weekend, I decided to go see the Steelers vs. Packers.  Why?  Because the Packers rarely come to Pittsburgh and Aaron was going to play a little in the first quarter.  So I photographed the first half, while the starters were playing.  I was happy I got a chance to see Aaron.  Regardless for how I feel about Green Bay Packers, I respect him as a person and quarterback.  Therefore, tonight’s post after a long absence is of #12, THE Aaron Rodgers.
