Matt Ryan

I’m so far behind in my photo editing.  Last night I edited some photos from the Steelers vs. Falcons on October 7th.  I was looking through them for a good Matt Ryan photo for a friend of mine.  In my opinion, this isn’t the typical “good” sports photo, but I liked it.  So here he is….. As you can tell from his dirty uniform, the Steelers got to him a bunch on this day.

Bar View

First, let me get this out of the way…..  I know this isn’t a great photograph technically.  The photography experts can point to all the problems with this photo.   No need, I already know they exist.

Now, the reason I shared this photo was because of the great memories associated with this spot.  This was the view from the beach side bar at the Secrets Silversands Resort in Puerto Morelos Mexico.  I got up before the sun on numerous days to catch the sunrise.  As you can tell, one of my favorite spots for watching the sunrise was from this bar.  For the record, the bar wasn’t open at this time of the day…..so it wasn’t the drinks that made this a great sunrise spot.

Pennsylvania Farm Sunrise

There are times when I love being a landscape photographer and there are times when it isn’t so fun…..like this morning when I got out of bed before 5am to photograph this lake.  Getting out of bed was the terrible part.  Once I got in the car and started the drive, I got excited about how cool this photo was going to look.  Plus there is something so cool about being in an awesome spot watching the sun come up.  When we’re on vacation, I’ll get up numerous times to watch the sunrise.

Anyway, this farm belongs to my co-workers’ family outside of Washington PA.  They have the largest man-made pond/lake I’ve seen in Pennsylvania.  It is massive!!  He asked me to photograph some of the farm for them and we went out there after work last week.  Once I saw that lake, I knew immediately that I had to come back for a sunrise photo.  So I paid the price and captured this wonderful photo.

Dual Sunrise

As I mentioned in my last post, I was attempting to capture the sunrise over the ocean in new and creative ways.  Tonight’s photo was taken from the jogging track on the Carnival Dream.  On the right is the actual sunrise.  On the left, the sunrise is reflecting off the windows to the on board steak house.  I hope you enjoy this different take on common photography subject.

Serenity Caribbean Sunrise

Sorry about the absence, as I mentioned prior I have been busy with work, family and travel.  Here is a photo I took recently on board the Carnival Dream while traveling the Caribbean Sea.  I was trying to get creative because a sunrise over the ocean with nothing in the foreground can be surprisingly boring.  So I captured this picture of the sunrise with a reflection of the iconic Carnival Tail in the Serenity Adult Only Retreat sign.  If you’ve never been on a Carnival cruise ship, the Serenity area is about the only open deck area that you can go to get away from the kids.  I’ve honestly, never had a problem with the kids on a cruise, but it is a very relaxing area to hang out.

Mexican Sunrise

I am going to be busy over the next week, so if I miss posting over that time, I would like to apologize in advance.  I appreciate everyone visiting and revisiting my blog.  I hope you find what I do interesting and it helps make your day better in some small way.

Tonight’s picture is a sunrise from the Dreams Puerto Morelas Resort in Mexico.  MJ and I got up early every day to check the weather.  If it looked nice outside, we’d go explore the resort before everyone else got out of bed.  It was peaceful and enjoyable to have areas entirely to us.

Puerto Morelos Sun Rise

I got up (which means MJ was disrupted) every morning at around 540am to peek outside.  I was hoping for a week full of amazing sunrises.  Instead, we got rain, clouds and more clouds.  Almost every morning was a disappointment.  But one morning we got lucky and Mother Nature gave us this sunrise.  I’d say it was worth waking up early every morning on a vacation to experience and photograph.  What do you think?

Early Morning Calm

Sorry about the recent absence…as you probably guessed, I’ve been traveling.  I took a long weekend and met some friends for our annual Great Lakes shipwreck scuba diving get together.  In the past, we’ve gone to Whitefish Point on Lake Superior and the Mackinaw Straits area diving in both Lake Michigan and Lake Huron.  We’ve done this five years in a row.  This year we met in Alpena Michigan to dive the Thunder Bay area of Lake Huron.  We got in three full days of diving on everything from ocean going modern steal freighters, barges, dredges, wooden steamers and ancient wooden sailing vessels.  A fun time was had by all.  In the past when the weather is to bad to dive, I’ve gone and capture some photos.   And you never know what the weather will be like.  This year, we got lucky, got lots of dives in…..so I didn’t take many photos.

But I did capture this photo at about 7am on Sunday morning of a few strangers leaving the harbor heading out to go fishing.  They didn’t know me, but stopped their boat to let me photograph them.

Thanksgiving Day Blues

I have nothing to complain about and am very thankful for everything in my life.  That said, I can't help but be bummed as I watched the Detroit Lions lose their 9th straight Thanksgiving day game in a row on a terrible call that cost them a TD and lost opportunities.  I've enjoyed visiting with family, eating turkey and relaxing today.

So instead of being depressed about another Lions loss, I am going to think happy thoughts.  I'll reflect back on our trip to Mexico when I took this picture.  I captured some great sun rises on this trip and this picture is an example of what every morning looked like at our resort.
