Gronk

How was your Sunday?  I was sick last weekend, but that didn’t stop me from photographing the Steelers vs. Patriots game.  It rained almost the entire game and I almost got my head taken off by Martavis Bryant (see the video below.....Bryant leaps over me at the end of the video).  Regardless, I had a good time and captured some great photos including the shot of Rob Gronkowski.

Corner

As I probably shared with you in the past, I spent many hours exploring Ford Field prior to the Lions vs. Steelers game.  I took photos from every angle, location and floor.  I think the security and stadium crew thought I was weird, but I don’t care.  I was having fun.  This photo was taken about 4 hours prior to the start of the game.

President Hotel

I hope you have a great Friday and weekend.  I don’t know about you, but I’m exhausted and just want to sleep all weekend.  So I’ll post this photo from the President Hotel in Cape Town South Africa for you to review, while I nap for the next two days.  I took this photo at dinner time, just after sunset.  The pool at this hotel was unique and I couldn’t capture enough photos of it.  You can see why….just beautiful.

Cadel Chapel

I was in Colorado Springs recently and made a point to visit the U.S. Air Force Academy Cadet Chapel.  It was completed in 1962 based on a design by Walter Netsch.  It has become a classic example of modernist architecture, even though the design was controversial at the time.  This photo doesn’t include the best features of the chapel, which are the 17 spires.  I’ll share a photo of the exterior in the future so you can see the spires.  Another interesting feature of this chapel is that it houses five distinct worship (Protestant, Catholic, Jewish Islamic & Buddhist) areas within it.  All I can say about it is “wow”!!  It’s a great facility.

William Gay

It was a cold game last night as the Steelers beat the Ravens.  I took a ton of photos as always…..  Here is a simple photo of William Gay from the game.  In case you don’t know, he is from Tallahassee Florida and went to college at Louisville.  He’s in his 11th season with the Steelers and is a staple in the Steelers secondary.  Most of the time a good action photo is what makes a good sports photo.  So why do I like this one, when he is just looking off into the distance…..  I’m not really sure…  Anyway, enjoy.

Industrial

Something different for you today.  I realize it is a NFL Sunday and I should probably post a football photo.  But the Steelers don’t play until late tonight.  So instead I’m posting this industrial photo from the Carrie Furnace.  This abandoned location is super cool.

Mother And Baby

As I’ve said a few times in the past, MJ and been asking for more African animal photos.  She mentioned it again today.  So here is a mother hyena and her baby from our time in Kruger National Park South Africa.  These two stayed in this spot, next to their den, while we got closer and closer.  They didn’t seem to mind our safari vehicle.  I liked this one with the baby’s tongue sticking out.

By the way, I’m sorry for the recent absence.  Thanks for your frequent visits to my site.

Jesse James

Hello all.   There are only three more home games for the Steelers.  I have mixed feelings about that.  On one hand, I usually don’t want football to end.  On the other hand, it’s cold out there!!  Anyway, here is a nice pic of Jesse James (81).  He’s in his 3rd NFL season after playing at Penn State.  He is also from the Pittsburgh areas, growing up in Mckessport (a suburb of Pittsburgh).  He replaced a long time great Steelers Tight End and the fans seem to like Jesse.  I think a fair analyst would say that Jesse drops to many passes otherwise he could be very good.

Sedona Sunset

I’m going to be busy over the next week or so.  I don’t know if I’ll have time to post any photos this week or not.  I’ll do my best to post via my normal schedule…but no promises.  For now, you can enjoy this panorama photo I took while we were in Sedona Arizona.  We (Kris, Scott, MJ and I) all went up to the Sedona airport to get up on the hill top for this view.  It’s not a secret spot…there were hundreds of people up there doing the same thing.

Holy Family

Tonight’s post is from Pittsburgh.  I took this picture on a scouting trip prior to the actual exploration day.  The water puddle caught my eye and I had to get this shot.  Anyway, I hope you have a great weekend.

Final Destination

I don’t know why I selected this photo for tonight’s post.  Maybe I’m just looking forward to our next trip to the Caribbean.  Of course, MJ still wants more African animals.  Anyway, this is of the Capilla del Cementerio Santa Maria in old San Juan Puerto Rico.

Automatic

Everyone knows I’m not a Steelers fan, but I can see why Steelers fans get frustrated with the offense at times.  They (Bryant, James and Rogers) seem to drop more passes then they catch.  The only consistent receiver on the team is Antonio Brown…just Automatic.  He catches everything thrown his way including this acrobatic catch with Packers’ Davon House draped all over him.

Elephant Parade

MJ has been on me for a few weeks to post this photo.  This was one of many magical moments we had in South Africa.  This group of elephants walked down this hill and put on a show on for us.  It was great watching them drink and play in this river.

Thankful

Well, it’s Thanksgiving holiday in the United States today.  I’m thankful for a number of things….

My wife, son, life, work, the Neighbors (you know who you are and you know why), peers, my health, my parents, in-laws, extended family, friends, photo friends and of course the Detroit Lions.  Why am I thankful for the Lions?  Good questions, for which I have no real answer.  Maybe because I grew up watching them…  Maybe it’s the fact they give Lions fans hope every year and for which they never deliver on…..  I don’t know, but I am thankful for them.  What can I say, they’re my team.

So here is a photo of Ameer Abdullah, starting running back.  He’s been with the Lions for 3 years after leaving the University of Nebraska.   Hopefully, he'll score 4 touchdowns today.

Iconic Pittsburgh

You know, it occurred to me tonight, that I haven’t posted a Pittsburgh photo in a long time.  I’ve been so busy sharing photos of South Africa and football pics, that I’ve deprived you of this great city.  So tonight you get a photo of an iconic Pittsburgh object….. One of their great bridges….with PNC Park and Heinz Field in the back ground.

South Africa's Coast

I took this photo as we traveled around Cape Peninsula in South Africa.  The view was amazing and I enjoyed every minute.  Can you tell I took this photo through the bus window?  I doubt it.  Would it have been better if I could have setup on my tripod and took my time to capture the moment.  Probably.  But I liked it even though it was a quick snap through the window as the bus speed down the road.

Fine Dinning Starts Here

Sorry for the late post tonight.  Because it is so late, I’ll keep this short and sweet.  Tonight’s photo is from an abandoned china factory outside of Pittsburgh.  This factory used to make all kinds of fine china…. I don’t know why it closed.  But all the molds are still sitting on the shelves and around the factory.  There is also a bunch of china in various stages of productions as well.

Anyway, have a great night.  To view a larger version, click HERE

Navy Yard

Today’s photo is from the Navy Yard area of Washington DC.  I took this last August, while MJ and I were there for some work meetings.  We met our friend Nick for dinner at this nice restaurant called Due South.  You can’t really see it in this photo, it’s behind the trees in the background of the pic.

Mariota to Murray

Here is a photo from last Thursday night’s game (Steelers vs. Titans).  It was a fairly cold night, but I dressed appropriately so I was completely warm.  The Steelers kicked the Titans butt.  I still enjoyed the game, even with the Steelers winning.  It was fun getting to see Marcus Mariota and DeMarco Murray.

NABI

I hope everyone is having a great Friday.

I was literally going to post a photo of the Navy Yards in Washington DC, until MJ started giving me a hard time again.  I swear all she wants me to post right now are animal photos from South Africa.  I’m afraid all of you will get sick of them, but she can’t get enough of them right now.  Therefore, I have this Impala photo for you.  During the safari, the guide kept calling them “NABIs”, which states for “Not Another Bloody Impala”.  There were so many of them, that we wouldn’t even slow the safari vehicle down to look at them.

Regardless, I liked this NABI photo I captured from inside Kruger National Park.  To view a larger version, click HERE
