Heinz Sunrise

Today’s photo was taken from the West End Bridge at sunrise.  I was there to photograph The Point State Park, but I liked this perspective as well.  Something about the simplicity of this photo appeals to me..... River, Heinz Field, and Sky..

Did you notice, I’ve had a couple of themes going on?  First, I posted two photos back to back of suspension bridges.  Now I’ve posted two photos back to back that are minimalist style.

Cadet Chapel Spires

Hello Tuesday!!  How was your day?  My day was pretty good…

About this photo:  I took this shot last December while I was in Colorado Springs for a class.  I slipped away from the group and took an Uber out to the U.S. Air Force Academy to visit the Cadet Chapel.  I took all kinds of photos of the inside and outside using the traditional perspectives.  But I also took some unique perspectives like this one.  I was trying to capture this beautiful structure in a way that most wouldn’t have considered.

Another Golden Gate Bridge Photo

If you were making a list of the most photographed sites in the world, I’d bet this bridge would be in the top ten list.  I’ve posted a number of photos of this bridge in the past, including one less then a month ago.

I took this photo in early June from a hiking path near the Golden Gate Welcome Center on a very cold day for that time of the year.

Mac To PC

After using Mac computers for well over a decade, I recently decided to switch back to a PC.  I didn't really want to do it, I loved my Mac computers.  And if I'm honest, I miss my Mac after the switch.  But frankly, I was getting mad at the idea of paying top dollar for a Mac that Apple hasn't updated in years.  Apple has taken their eye off the ball and hasn't upgraded their computers.  I couldn't justify paying for something that was at least 2 years outdated before it is taken out of the box.

So I purchased a Dell to maximize my dollar.  My new PC is faster, more efficient and has more memory for less money then any Mac.  I left my beloved Mac for a PC.....  Apple just needs to get their act together!!!

My new Dell is just as pretty as any Mac, But I also purchased a dBrand skin to give it a little character and protect it.  See the photos below.

National Road

MJ and I went over to Wheeling West Virginia a couple of months ago to explore the area.   It isn’t very far from us, but I never go over there.  All my focus is on our local area and Pittsburgh.  I think that was the 2nd time I’ve been to Wheeling in the 8 years we’ve lived in Pennsylvania.  Anyway, this is the Wheeling Suspension Bridge which is part of the original National Road.

Montenegro Doors

When MJ and I were traveling through the country of Montenegro, we were taken to this small village called Njeguši up in the mountains.  We stopped here for a couple of hours to get lunch, use the restroom and explore this tiny village.  When I say tiny, I mean really tiny.  Maybe 30 people lived here.   Anyway, I was taking photos an old home in town and I just fell in love with these green doors that were part of the structure.

In case you didn’t know, Montenegro is a small country between Croatia, Bosnia, Serbia, Kosovo, and Tirana on Adriatic Sea.  Beautiful country with tons of mountains….

Sedona Sky

Happy 4th of July to all my American friends as the United States of America celebrates its Independence.  We’ll all barbecue and drink beer with friends and family.  Frankly, that’s what the holiday has evolved to in our current society.

About the photo:  I took this just before sunset at the Sedona airport looking down on Sedona in the valley.  Interestingly, this location is probably more popular for sunset and photo taking then it is for the airport.

Carrie Furnace

I need to get out and take some photos soon.  I’m going through withdrawal and I don’t like it.  I enjoy processing photos, but its not even close to the happiness I feel when I’m out exploring an area and trying to capture it’s beauty with my camera.  The last photos I took were over a month ago…..  so sad…

By the way, I took this photo at the Carrie Furnace south of Pittsburgh.  This is part of the larger mechanical structure.  I sort of liked this perspective.

Auditorium

Well, its still extremely hot at our house with our air conditioning being completely out of order….  I know what you’re thinking…. It’s a real first world problem.  Anyway, we’ll survive and count the minutes until the new unit is installed.  Until then, enjoy this photo of the Bradley Elementary School auditorium.  This is from our Motown Urbex trip.

Dubrovnik

This is the ancient walled city portion of Dubrovnik.  MJ and I had such a great time exploring this area.  It was equally great walking around the upper portion of the walls as it was at street level exploring the shops, architecture and churches.  I wish we could go back.

By the way, today is our (MJ and I) anniversary.  Twenty-nine years ago, we tied the knot against everyone’s advice.  Our family and friends thought we were crazy.  Guess what…they were correct about the crazy part, but not about the marriage.  Those years have been great and I’d do it all over again.  So today, like every day, my love goes out to MJ.

Morning Sun

I can’t speak to what’s happening in your areas, where ever you are, but today in Pittsburgh it is hot, hot, hot!!!  So I was flipping through photos looking for something that would display cool, cold, or refreshing….and I came across this photo I processed and left to rot on my computer for the last year or so.  It just makes me want to jump into that pool and cool off.  Have a great weekend and a happy holiday.

Holy Family Church

Here’s a photo from last spring.  This is a great abandoned cathedral in the Pittsburgh area.  I love the blue ceiling.

I didn’t do much this weekend.  A few chores and a lot of relaxing.  How about you?

Lion Cubs

During one of our safaris in South Africa, the driver found this spot where is claimed to see Cheetah cubs.  We sat there for some time staring through the brush trying to see them.  Honestly, I took a ton of photos blindly in that direction because I couldn’t see them with my eye.  When I got back from that trip, I went back to look and found this photo.  First, it was amazing that the photo turned out great even though I was just guessing on the focus point and just shooting. Second, they were not Cheetah’s.

Lombard Street

Like all tourist who visit San Francisco, I went to see Lombard Street.  I have to admit, it was fairly cool.  I visited it twice during my last SF visit.  I was there the first time during the daylight (bright light).  So I went back the next night to photograph it during and after sunset….  That’s when I captured this beauty looking up hill.

Gibson's Dive Charter

The annual guys Great Lakes ship wreck scuba diving trip is coming up in August.  It’ll be here before I know it (you know how times flies).  That had me thinking about last year’s trip… So I went back and found this photo I took with the drone looking down at us between dives.

Double Golden

I don’t often have bad trips…maybe never.  But I don’t want every trip I take to sound like it was off the charts amazing.  I’m naturally optimistic and positive, which has an impact on my general outlook about my experiences.  All that said, I had a great time in San Francisco earlier this month.  On my 2nd evening, I took an Uber to the Golden Gate Bridge.  From there, I took a ton of photos around this historic landmark.  After capturing all the photographs I wanted at that spot, I started walking back toward the downtown area taking photos along the entire way.  Today’s photo is from that walk.  I was probably a mile east of the bridge heading towards the Palace of Fine Arts.  I wasn’t really thinking about it or planning it, but for some reason I looked backwards (back towards the area I had left) and saw this amazing view.  Thus, you get this great photo to appreciate.  The lesson is to remember to look backwards from time to time.  You never know what great view is back there unless you look. In this case, the Golden Gate Bridge and a golden sunset.

Boschendal Winery

I’ve mentioned it before, but I’ll say it again.  South Africa was AMAZING!!  It’s on my “return to” list.  We had such a wonderful time.  Great food.  Beautiful landscapes.  Cool wildlife.  We lucked out with great weather.  Extremely affordable and we visited some outstanding wineries.   One of them was this cool estate called Boschendal Winery.  They had this great outdoor setting where we sampled numerous wines.  Here is the link to their site:  http://www.boschendal.com/

Car Park

During a past visit to Detroit, Rodney and I went over to the Pontiac Silverdome.  We were hoping to photograph the inside, but work crews were actually within destroying the facility.  So, we launched the drone and took a punch of photos of the old girl before she was gone.  In the parking lot around the old stadium were thousands of cars.  I assume one of the local automotive plants was storing them there before they are sent off to dealerships around the country.
