Bonaire Salt Flats

As my many loyal fans (all five of them) have noticed, I was out of touch the last week.  No social media, email, or blog.  The entire family traveled to Bonaire and spent the week relaxing, scuba diving and just having fun.  So I’m sorry I was absent from the rest of the electronic world.

We had a wonderful time and I’d highly recommend this country to anyone to likes Caribbean islands, warm weather, nice people, and amazing scuba diving.  It was windy every day, which is a good thing since it keeps you cool.  But it made it hard to fly my drone.  I wanted to get some photos of the Cargill operated salt flats, which was hard to do with the strong winds.  In the end, I got a few like this photo I’m sharing today

Durban Hotel Patio

How was your week?  I had an extremely busy week at work with a number of long days.  But that’s over and its now time to relax.

Tonight’s photo is from our South Africa trip.  I took this on rainy morning on the patio of our Durban city hotel which sat along the coast.  A combination of the dawn darkness, rain and weird lights on the patio created this unique perspective.

My Favorite Cathedral

I’ve posted numerous photos from this location before.  It’s a famous site in the Pittsburgh area.  It’s hard to get a bad photo in this site.

Caribbean Dream

I don’t know about the rest of you, but I’m ready for another visit to a site just like this.  For me, this is just around the corner and I can’t wait.  I plan to uber relax, get some scuba dives in and some great family time.  Soon!!!

By the way, this is a beach just south of Cancun.  To view a larger version, click HERE

Cool Library

Why can’t every city have a cool library like this?  Seattle has it going on when it comes to library building design!  This ultra-contemporary glass and metal structure is awesome inside and out.  If your ever in the Emerald City, make this one of your stops.  It’s worth checking out.

Mac Miller RIP

I didn’t know Malcolm James McCormick (aka…. Mac Miller) but I interacted with him once prior to a Steelers game in 2016.  At the time, he was dating Ariana Grande and they were at the game to help with the pre-game Terrible Towel kickoff.   After our interaction, I took a few photos of them.  Unfortunately, he fell victim to drugs yesterday, like many others before….

St. Joseph's Catholic Church

This little beautiful church is surrounded on three sides by a huge mall in downtown San Antonio Texas.  The only side not blocked by the mall from the street.  From the outside, this church looks like any other around the country.  But when you go inside, you find this exceptionally decorated temple.  Just beautiful.

Pennsylvania Avenue

Good evening, good afternoon or good morning depending on where you’re at right now.   Today’s post is from Washington D.C. with the White House at my back as I watched the sunset down Pennsylvania Avenue.  I took this photo in early August during our visit to see Nick and Erica.  I hope you have a great sunset in your area today.

Ebenezer Bridge

I hope everyone is having a great holiday weekend, at least if you’re in the United States.  We had family over to visit, relax and hang out.  Yesterday we went to Mingo Park and had a great time.  I took this photo of Ebenezer Bridge inside the park….. it took some patience waiting for people to get out of the way (cars, bikers, walkers, etc…).  They all wanted their time on the bridge.

Abandoned Rye Distillery

As I’ve mentioned in the past, some photos get processed and then sit on my hard drive for a long time (sometimes years) waiting to get posted.  I took this photo a while back from a photo walk with Dave, Brad, and Mike at an abandoned rye distillery outside of Pittsburgh.  This graffiti is on the 2nd floor.  You can see the hole in the floor where the liquid storage container used to sit.

Tomlin

There are some coaches that are just intimidating based on how they look at people.  Mike Tomlin is one of those guys.  He just has “the look”.  Now I must say, he is very nice and engaging person, but I don’t want “the look” aimed at me.

Note:  I took this photo last week during the Steelers vs. Titans game.

Dream Spot

I don’t know about you, but I love being in and around water.  Pools, lakes, ponds, rivers, seas, oceans, etc…  I love them all.  This specific spot is from a resort south of Cancun in Mexico.  I got up super early to capture this sunrise photo.

Brooklyn Bridge

It’s been way to long since my last trip to NYC, but I still have a ton of great photos from that trip.  I’ve always felt safe and enjoyed walking around the city at night alone.  I captured this photo from the middle of the Brooklyn Bridge on one of those solo photo walks.  I think it’s a unique perspective that you don’t see much.

African Elephant

I don’t know about you, but I’m not ready for the weekend to be over.  I need to figure out how to be on permanent vacation.  I think the word for it is “retirement” and I’m not even close to that point yet.  So I’ll just have to get my head back into the game.  In the meantime, I’ll use this photo I took in South Africa to help get me there.

Ben

The Steelers had their first 2018 home pre-season game today against the Titans.   I wasn’t sure whether or not I’d get my NFL Media Sideline Credential this season.  It’s a long story….but they came through and I picked them up today prior to the game.  So everything ended well.  I got the passes and photographed the game today.

Great Bay

It has been a few years since my last visit to St. Martin.  I took this photo on the beach looking out at the Great Bay.  Amazing location!!  I’ve had this photo processed and sitting on my hard drive for a long time…. It was just waiting for it’s time…  Guess what?  It is time.

Mexican Resort

MJ and I are currently planning our winter travel plans.  It has me thinking about warm weather destinations.  We didn’t fall in love this resort, but we had a good time.  As you can tell, I captured this photo with my drone.  Looks pretty doesn’t it??

Splendor's Theater

I haven’t posted a Carnival Cruise ship photo lately.  Therefore, I’m posting this photo I took inside the Carnival Splendor’s theater.  Sometimes these theaters are over the top, but this one is just plain classy.

Last Week

I’ve been absent from my website and all social media last week.  I was traveling and busy.  Here’s how my week went:

·       Sunday – drove from Pittsburgh to north of Detroit.  Visited with my sister and her family, then dinner and visiting with my childhood friends and their wives/girlfriends.

·       Monday – breakfast with a former boss/mentor.  Then I visited with the Carmen’s….who are quasi parents to MJ and I.  Following that, I went to visit with someone who helped raise me and ended the day by having dinner with my Dad.  He and I got a chance to hang out and talk.

·       Tuesday – my Dad and I went for a walk and then snorkeled at the beach in front of his cottage on Lake Huron.  Following that I drove to Grayling Michigan (central northern Michigan) to visit with my Aunt, cousin and other family members.  Following that nice visit, I traveled further north to join my scuba diving buddies.

·       Wednesday through Friday – We ate, slept, visited and completed some cold water ship wreck scuba diving in Lake Huron and Lake Michigan.   The depth of wrecks ranged from 90 feet to 158 feet.   We dove on a steel freighter, wooden schooners and a wooden steamer.  The water was around 71 degrees at the surface and as cold as 38 degrees below the thermocline.  I’ve been diving with these guys for well over ten years and we always have a great time.  This was no different.  Afterward, I drove from northern Michigan to South Bend Indiana to meet up with MJ, Blair and our friends.

·       Saturday – we all traveled to Chicago to see Pearl Jam play at Wrigley Field (see the photos below).  Great concert in a great venue.

·       Sunday – we had the long trip from Chicago back to Pittsburgh.

I took the photo of Scott Gibson and myself with my drone out on Lake Huron a few miles out from Mackinaw City.  The other two (Tom and Kyle) were underwater at the time diving on the Cedarville ship wreck.  Scott and I were wasting time waiting on them to come back up.  You can see Mackinac Island off in the background.
