As many of you know, MJ and I are in Iceland right now traveling around the entire country to capture some great landscape photos and get some relaxation. The sun sets between 12pm and 1am depending on which part of the country you are in. The sun rises at around 3am. But even with the sunset and sunrise, it never gets dark here during the summer. They call it the midnight sun.

Anyway two nights ago, we stayed at a great hotel in the Skagafjorour Bay area of Iceland. We stayed on the eastern shore of this bay at Hofsstaoir Hotel. It was a small hotel of about 12 typical rooms, except for the Turf House. We stayed in this building. It was the original farmhouse made of timber and turf (sod) sides and roof. They renovated a few years ago, which included an expansion. Our room was the original structure, which is a three-room suite. You can see a picture of it below. We had the entire right half. The middle was an entrance and common room. The left had two typical type hotel rooms (bedroom and bathroom). Princess Anne stayed in the same suite a few years ago when it was renovated. It was really cool. A once in a lifetime type experience!!

While at this location, the owner suggested I stay up for the sunset because of the reflection it would cast on the bay. So I did just that. I went out at around 1230am to catch the 1am sunset (again even after sunset it doesn’t get dark) and took the picture below.

This picture is two HDR images merged together to create a panorama image. Each HDR image is made up of 9 exposures for 18 total exposures. I processed the 18 pictures and put them together to get this great shot. I think this is probably a very typical sunset for the Skagafjorour Iceland area.
