Murals in The Market

I love Detroit’s Eastern Market district.  Every year they hold the Murals in The Market festival where they bring over 50 of the world’s best graffiti artist to paint amazing murals on the surrounding buildings.  The result is an exterior museum that’s open to everyone and art exhibits that change on an annual basis.  I’ve visited this location numerous times.  The quality of the murals is top notch.

This mural was painted by BMike Odums and Rick Williams last September.   At first, I was disappointed with the truck parked in the way, but the more I looked at my photo, the more I liked it sitting in front of the mural.  The colors of the truck match the mural and you get an idea of size.

Reflections and Tile Work

As I currently sit at home and watch it rain outside (by the way it’s also cold out there), I wish I was in a warmer spot.  I want to be back to this spot….. warm, relaxing, fun, beautiful.  But I’m not.  So, I’ll have to enjoy the photo and remember what it felt like to be at this location.

Golf Season

Golf season is upon us in the northern hemisphere.  I’m not a big golfer.  In fact, I only golf 2 to 3 times per year max.  Not much, when you consider some golfers play that many times each week.  When people ask me, I don’t even call myself a golfer.  I just play in a few work events per year.  Regardless, I enjoy being outside and knocking the ball around.

I took this photo last fall just after sunset at a local country club.  They had me out there on a photography assignment.  This photo wasn’t part of what they requested, but saw this in my head and wanted to capture it while I was there.  I liked this photo for the simplicity of it.  It’s not a “big” photo with lots going on or a big scene.  It’s just the ball and the hole…no distractions.

The Look

MJ and I ran into this guy while on safari in southeast South Africa.  As you’ve read before, we had a wonderful trip to South Africa with dozens of great animal experiences.  This guy looks tough, but he didn’t threaten us or anything.  And He allowed me to capture his portrait.  Handsome looking dude…don’t you think?

County Fair

Blair and I went to the local county fair last summer to capture some long exposures.  This is one from the excursion….  I don’t remember what this ride was called, but as you can tell, the ride just spins in a circle.

Bradley Elementary

Here’s another photo from my recent Detroit Urban Exploration trip.  This is from within the abandoned Bradley Elementary school.  The outside of this building looks like what I’d expect from a wealthy private school.  The inside is in rough shape as you can see.  If the surrounding neighborhood was in great shape, this place would have been renovated into something long ago.  But it’s surrounded by a declining environment, which probably prevents any potential investors from seriously doing anything with this facility.  The entire situation is sad.

Facing East

I haven’t posted a Pittsburgh photo in a long time.  So tonight’s the night.  I’ve had this photo sitting on my hard drive waiting to be shared.  I took this photo a while back while on a photo walk with Dave and Brad.  I need to get back into Pittsburgh soon to capture some more photos.  It’s been to long!!

Machu Picchu

I’ve been so lucky over my life with all the travel and wonderful destinations I’ve been able to experience.  Today’s post is from our past trip to Machu Picchu in Peru.  This historic site is just…… WOW!!  By the way, we have some great trips planned for 2018.  Some long weekends and some longer trips….  Fun!!

Have a great day.

Michigan Central Train Station

Here is another photo from the Detroit Urban Exploration weekend.  I took this with my drone around sunset.  I saw photo by another photographer with this perspective and I liked it.  So, I did my best to replicate it while I was there.   I like my version, but not quite as well as the other photographers.  I think he had better light…. Oh well.  I’ll have to live with my version.

School Auditorium

Tonight’s post is from my recent trip to Detroit.  We explored a number of great facilities including this school.  It was so dark inside this auditorium that getting a good photo was tough.  But I think I managed to get a good pic.  At least I think so.

Packard Plant

Recently I spent a few days with a group of like-minded urban exploration photographers in Detroit.  We didn’t go there for fun, although we had some fun, we went to Detroit to photograph as many sites as possible.  This photo is the classic Packard Plant via my drone.  You can see much of the abandoned complex in the background.

Pedestrian Bridge

Short post for you tonight.  I’m running behind tonight….thus the quick post.  So here goes.  This is the Pedestrian Bridge in the marina area of Cape Town South Africa.  I enjoyed walking around this area and taking it all in.

Sorry I have to run.

Need A Beach Chair??

Here is another photo from our trip to Mexico.  As I mentioned before, I got up early to capture the resort without anyone else in the way.  That also got me access to the beach early and a great sunrise.  The beach here is very nice and the ocean’s amazing.

End Zone

Last football season was filled with lots of great experiences for me.  The highlight for me was my road trip to Ford Field in Detroit Michigan.  I loved getting a chance to photograph the game, but I also enjoyed capturing photos of the facility long before the game started.  Right now, the country is focused on NHL playoffs, NBA and the NCAA March Madness, which is fine.  But personally, I’m ready for the football season to start.

President Pool

Happy Friday.  This is the pool at the President Hotel in Cape Town.  During our stay, I sat in this pool for at least an hour one night talking with our group, which is an amazing feat, since the water temperature was extremely cold.  MJ didn’t even want to put her feet in the water.  They pump the water into it from the Atlantic Ocean and it isn’t remotely close to warm.  Regardless, the location was beautiful, and the company was great.

Penguin

It’s been a long week and we’re not done yet.  So I’m having a small brain freeze right now and don’t have much to say.  So I’ll just keep it short and share this cute photo of this African Penguin (also called a Jackass Penguin).  I took this photo last October at Boulders Beach in South Africa.

5 Star Room

I had a great time presenting to The Academy of Science & Art of Pittsburgh – Photographic Section ( http://pghphoto.org) last night.  I’ve lectured for them in the past and they’ve always been very nice to me.  Last night my presentation was about HDR (High Dynamic Range) photography.  I hope the group enjoyed the presentation as much as I enjoyed my time with them.  They have a ton of talented photographers in their club.  My thanks go out to them for hosting me.

Tonight’s photo is from an abandoned hospital in southwestern Pennsylvania.  I’ve taken so many photos in this facility and I love them all.

Divorce Beach

I hope you like this photo of Divorce Beach which sits on the Pacific side of Lands End near Cabos San Lucas.  I was out with a few others scuba divers near Pelican Rock and the Arch of Cabo San Lucas.  Between dives, we took the dive boat around the peninsula to the Pacific side to get this amazing view.  Someday, I’m going to stay in Cabo long enough to really explore this area.  Both of my prior visits were too short.

Sunrise Splendor

We had our annual spring cruise recently.  This year we traveled on the Carnival Splendor out of Long Beach California.  Typical of my travel plans, I got up early to capture the sunrise, which I don’t like to do when I’m at home.  But I’ve done this dozens of times on past Carnival cruises and on non-cruise trips, so I was attempting to capture something unique…something I haven’t captured in the past.  So I went towards the front the ship on the deck above the Bridge and captured this photo looking towards the stern of the ship.
