Mt. Washington View

Like many photos, this one was sitting on my hard drive waiting for its moment to shine.  Well, now is the time for this pic.  I took this a few months ago on a very cold morning.  I was hoping for a great sunrise and didn’t get one.  But I got a great photo of the Point State Park while it was underwater.

Hallway

We worked hard this weekend on home projects, both inside and outside the house.  What did you do this weekend?  Now it’s time to relax before work tomorrow…..  So, I’m going to post a photo, watch a little TV and just enjoy the evening.

Today’s photo:  I took this photo in an abandoned nursing dorm in the Pittsburgh area with Blair last fall.  For weird reasons, I was at this location twice within a few weeks, which was okay because it’s a beauty.

Mike Mitchell

I’m not sure the status of Mike at this point.  I think the Steelers released him in March to avoid his salary cap hit with their roster.  So, I think he is currently a free agent…. I haven’t heard of him signing with another team, but I couldn’t find anything about him.  During pre-game, when the Steelers would announce the defensive player, he would always wear a Terrible Towel over this face like this.  It was sort of his trademark.

W&J College

Its spring!!!!  Finally.  Washington and Jefferson College is a nice little school about 30 miles from Pittsburgh.  It has a cute little campus that looks great at ground level and great from above.  This is a shot looking down at some of the dorms with the student union (with the pink umbrellas).  Everything is so colorful.

Cadillac Stamping Plant

This is an amazing urbex spot in Detroit.  I didn’t plan it or even think about this, but we arrived a day after heavy rain.  So everything was damp and there was standing water everywhere….which turned out to be awesome!!  I got a ton of great reflection shoots like this one which I took in the mechanical area of the roof top.  Just cool stuff.

Hout Bay

It’s been a little while since I posted a South Africa photo.  And as you all know, I loved that trip.  Anyway, here’s a panorama photo looking over Hout Bay towards Harbour Heights on Cape Peninsula in the Western Cape region of the country…..  Just beautiful.  In case you didn’t know, this is in the Southwestern corner on the country on the Atlantic Ocean side of the continent.

Stadium

Blair and I met up with Mike today in Akron to do a little urban exploration.  Honestly, we didn’t have much luck.  But we got a chance to visit the former University of Akron Rubber Bowl stadium, which opened in 1940 and closed in 2008.  It was named the Rubber Bowl due to the huge rubber tire industry (Goodyear and Firestone) that used to exist in Akron.  The stadium is now scheduled for demolition in the near future.

Cusco Alley

Today’s photo is something a little special for you.  It’s a rare black and white photo from me…..  I just don’t produce many black and white images.  But when I processed this photo 2 years ago, I liked it better this way.  Then I left it sitting on my hard drive, until right now…..  So you now get to see this great picture of an alley in the city center of Cusco Peru.

Pool View

Today’s photo is from the Grand Bahia Principe Akumal near Tulum Mexico.  As I shared with you before, the drone police (security guard) made me put it away.  Apparently, it’s scary for everyone that a drone is flying 400 feet above their head.  Well, I got tons of photos before he came over and this is one of the many beauties I captured.

Stamping Plant Stairs

Our epic Detroit Urbex weekend was a great time.  I took tons of photos, played tour guide to our group and explored some unique locations.  A big part of the fun for me was the time I got to spend with my son.  He’s grown into a fine photographer who enjoys trying to outperform me.  And sometimes he does.  He keeps me sharp and striving to get better.

This is one of the stairwells inside the Cadillac Stamping Plant from that great weekend.  To view a larger version, click HERE

Smithfield Bridge

Last night Blair, Dave and I ran into Pittsburgh to capture some photos.  Normally I would get out a couple of times per month.  But lately, I haven’t been able to get away…plus the weather has been terrible.  So we finally got out and I captured this beauty at the legendary Smithfield Bridge in downtown.

Erectheion

I took this detail photo of a column base which is part of Erechteion during our last Europe trip.  This structure is an ancient Greek temple on the north side of the Acropolis in Athens Greece.  This temple was built between 421 and 406 BC by Phidias (sculptor and mason) and Mnesicles (architect).  The entire Acropolis is wonderful as an archaeology site with lots of small details.  It’s worth the hike up the hill to this spot.

Splendor Lobby

I have another cruise ship photo for you today.  I realize I posted one for you on April 25, but I don’t care.  This is the lobby of Carnival Splendor at around 530am in the morning….  You know why I took this photo at that time of the day.  Like many of the Carnival cruise ships, this one has decoration that is a little over the top.  We had a few beverages at this bar during our trip.  Good times.

Cell #10

Tonight’s post is another photo from our exploration of an abandoned Pennsylvania prison.  Blair and I were given this opportunity last October to check out this place from top to bottom.  That was a fun day…..  Most people want to avoid prison… Blair and I ran towards it.

Carnival Sunrise

As you all know, we like our Carnival cruises.  MJ and I try our best to get at least one of them in per year.  And I always get up early at least one day per cruise to capture some sunrise photos and photos of the ship without fellow cruisers in the way.  I always challenge myself to capture the sunrise photo in a different way so that the photos continue to be unique.  Today’s photo is from our cruise last August.  I think I got a unique perspective from the back of the ship.  What do you think of this photo?

Pat Perry's Mural

We found this outstanding mural during our Detroit urban exploration weekend.  I love how the artist didn’t paint the entire wall, just used portions and left some of brick exposed as part of the mural.  He even worked around the windows and used one within the lantern.  I’m not 100% sure, but I think he painted this as part of the Murals in the Market festival.  You can see more of his work here: http://patperry.net/

Shazier

I haven’t posted a football photo in a while, so today’s the day.  I took this photo of Ryan Shazier early in the 2017 NFL season before his terrible injury.  Honestly, I don’t know his current health status, but I hope he’s on his way to a full life recovery.  If he every plays football again isn’t important.  Getting back to everyday life skills and being fulfilled are the important items.  My thoughts are with him.

Kinzua Bridge

I posted a photo from this day excursion months ago and sort of forgot about them.  Tonight I was surfing through my hard drive and came upon the folder from this location.  This is such a great location.  This old train bridge a tornado knocked down.  So they converted into a state park.

Cadet Chapel

Today’s photo is another from the U.S. Air Force Academy Cadet Chapel in Colorado Springs.  While I was photographing this wonderful facility, I tried to capture it from angles and perspectives that haven’t been captured a million times before.  What do you think of this perspective?
