MJ and I had a chance to experience the relatively new Carnival Mardi Gras cruise ship. As you can imagine, it’s been a while since we’ve been on a cruise boat. Like my past practice, I got up very early one morning to photograph the ship while everyone else slept. This is one of many bars on the ship.
More Detroit Lions
One day after the terrible game between the Steelers and Lions, I have some more photos for you. These are focused on my Detroit Lions.
Steelers vs Lions
Here are a few photos from today’s game. (Heinz Field – November 14, 2021). It was a cold, wet, and ugly game. Neither team desired to win and neither one of them did.
Faces of Formula 1
I’m still scratching the surface of the 27k photos I took during the 2021 FIA F1 US Grand Prix in Austin Texas. And, I’ve been very busy with since leaving Texas, therefore I haven’t paid much attention to my website, social media, and photography in general. Sorry about that.
Here are some F1 personalities and a few behind the scenes images from the race weekend.
Steelers vs Bears
I don’t know about you, but I can’t believe it is Friday night already. I was so busy; I didn’t post any photos from Monday Night Football. So here you go….
Veteran's Day
I was surprised today when my good friend @jasonpohuski posted this on his IG account today. I felt very honored that he thought of Frank and I. Big thanks to him.
Enjoyment
Frank Hyatt and I during Monday Night Football (Steelers vs. Bears) earlier this week. I don’t remember what was so funny at the time, but clearly I had a good time. Frank is a wonderful person and fun to be around. I’m very lucky to have so many great photography friends. People like Jason, Jake, Brian, Frank, Ed, Dave, Brad, etc…

George Russell
I watched the FIA F1 Mexico City Grand Prix today. Formula 1 had two weeks off since the USGP in Austin Texas. Watching the race today on TV made me realize how much I enjoyed the USGP experience and would love to photograph more Formula 1 races in the future. I’ll have to think about that and start making some plans for next season.
The photo I’m posting for you today is George Russell who drives for Williams Racing. Next season, he’ll switch to the Mercedes racing team along side Lewis Hamilton. And with that team change, he’ll finally have a chance to win a race. The Williams Racing team has struggled to put a competitive car on the grid the last few years.
I took this photo at the 2021 USGP, of course.
Mazepin
Here is a photo I captured of Nikita Mazepin who drives for the only American based Formula 1 team (Haas Racing). This is his first full year racing at the FIA Formula 1 level.
By the way, it would be great if the Haas American team could do better than last place all the time. Just saying….
Max again
Here is a photo I took during the last couple laps of the FIA Formula 1 USGP in Austin Texas. These race cars are super fast. I’d get one good, focused photo out of every 10 photos. I have one of the fasted shooting and focusing cameras in the world and the cars are too quick!!
It appears that Max Verstappen will win the 2021 season Championship with only a handful of races to go (he has a 12-point lead with 5 races to go). That’ll make a ton of Red Bull racing fans happy, but I’d prefer to see Lewis Hamilton win his 8th Championship. It doesn’t look like that will happen this year. Max will probably get his first.
Winner...Max Verstappen
@jasonpohuski and I hustled to the finish line to make sure we captured the end of the FIA F1 USGP race. Red Bull Racing Honda’s Max Verstappen won the race with his rival (Lewis Hamilton who drives for Mercedes) right behind him in 2nd place. It was a fun event to cover and probably the most difficult thing I’ve ever photographed. It was a technical and logistical challenge from the beginning to the end.
About this photo, the winning pit crew always runs to the wall to cheer for their driver going passed the finish line. At this track, at this time of day, it was a tough shot to get because of the harsh sun, shadows from the grandstands, the speed of the car and several other factors. So it isn’t the best photo in the world, but it captures some of the emotion involved in the sport.
Lando Norris
I’m very sorry I haven’t posted anything since October 17th. My job has been extremely busy with most days starting at 7am and going until late into the evening. On top of that, I caused some of my own stress by spending a long weekend in Austin Texas. While down there, I also has an extremely busy schedule because I was covering the FIA Formula 1 US Grand Prix, Formula 4 and W Series races at the Circuit Of The Americas race track. Big thanks to Golden Sky Media for allowing me to cover the event for them.
I covered the three days:
· Friday – practice sessions
· Saturday – practice and qualifying
· Sunday – races
Over those three days covering the track, pit lane and the paddock, I took over 27,000 photos. So, I’ve had two weeks of now stop action and a packed schedule. Again, I’m sorry for the absence.
Here is a photo of Lando Norris who drives the number 4 McLaren race car. Lando finished in 8th place.
Snell
I’m ready for tonight’s game (Steelers vs. Seahawks). You?
Night games are always fun. The Shutter Rush Team (Jason, Jake and I) will all be there covering the game for our respective media outlets.
I took this photo last weekend at the Steelers vs. Broncos game. This Benny Snell Jr.
Morning in Miami Beach
Here is a drone photo I took last spring while MJ and I escaped for a week. This was taken right after sunrise…. I loved the beach early in the morning before the crowds showed up.
Gibson's Sunset
Ready for a great lake sunset photo? I took this one last fall while staying at Gibson’s lake cottage in northern Michigan. Huge thanks to them for letting us use the cottage….
Von Miller
It was fun capturing photos of the Broncos last Sunday. It was my first time photographing Denver. Their star defensive player was fun to watch…
Professional Sports Photographers on the NFL Sideline
When I think back over the last decade, I’ve been helped, coached, and mentored by many great photographers. Like any group of individuals, not everyone is helpful or at times even nice…but most are and I’m thankful to all of them.
You see the games and often see our work, but you often don’t see us on the sidelines. I’d like to share some photos of these professionals who bring you the great images you see in newspapers, magazines, websites and on social media channels.
The photos are from yesterday’s Steelers vs. Broncos game (October 10, 2021) at Heinz Field. As you see, we have some fun while we’re capturing photos for the media, teams, players, wire services, and the fans.
By the way, I often get asked what camera gear I use. In the end, it doesn’t really matter. For example, this group of photographers use Sony, Nikon Canon, Fijifilm, GoPros, DJi Pocket Osmos, iPhones, etc…. Basically what ever works!!
These photos were taken by us (Jason Pohuski, Jake Mysliwczyk, Mark Alberti, Ed Thompson, Brian Cook and me) of each other.
Glacier Runoff
I took these two drone photos looking down on the glacier runoff in the Westfjords area of Iceland. It creates a braided river as it runs towards the Atlantic Ocean.
Highmark Stadium
Short video with a few great photos from the Steelers game at Highmark Stadium early in the 2021 NFL Season.
NY Waterfalls
Here is another photo from Taughannock Falls. This is a zoomed in version of the top of the falls.
