The Outlook

I took this photo back in June when Michael Shilo Luzano came to visit.  He and I hit a number of iconic Pittsburgh photography spots.  This is an untraditional view of a traditional spot.  The traditional photo is taken out of the Outlook (round platform) of the city.  But I can’t remember ever seeing a photo that included the Outlook platform in the shot.

Have a great Thanksgiving holiday.

Charles Woodson

Today I’m sharing this photo I took of Free Safety Charles Woodson, when Oakland was in town a few weeks ago.  I’ve always liked Charles since his playing days at the University of Michigan.  It’s hard to believe he has been in the NFL for 18 years.  Gosh, I’m getting old.  Anyway, have a great football weekend.

Pittsburgh Light Trails

I must be in a “blue” mood, since I’ve posted two photos in a row that are dominated by the color blue.  The last one was from San Francisco and this photo is from Pittsburgh.  To capture this photo, I met Brad Truxell on the north side of Pittsburgh behind a Fire Department to get this perspective.  I’d be willing to bet that these firefighters have the best view in all of Pennsylvania.

Palace Of Fine Arts Reflection

This unique complex is fairly close to the Golden Gate Bridge.  I’ve posted a picture from this location in the past and explained the history in the prior post.  So tonight, I’ll keep this short and just say I like the reflection and the blue in this photo.

Iglesia de la Compania de Jesus (Church of the Society of Jesus)

This is the rival church to the Cusco Cathedral.  Both of these churches sit near each other on the Plaza de Armas.   The Jesuits constructed it in 1576 on the foundations of a palace built for an Inca ruler named Wayna Qhapaq.  It’s considered one of the best examples of colonial baroque style in the Americas.

My dad, MJ and I toured the inside of this beautiful church before I took this photo.  Fun day.

Montour Trail

I took this photo a few weeks ago while biking on the Montour rail to trail that runs through Washington County.  It was past fall color peak, but I still liked this setting.  It was nice combining photography and biking.  I should do more of that.  Have a great weekend.

btw…..my thoughts are with the people of Paris tonight.

Raiders Fans and Other Off Field Photos

Steelers’ fans travel well and follow their team all over the country.  What I didn’t know was that Oakland Raiders’ fans travel in mass as well.  On top of the number of fans, they don’t just wear a Raiders jersey.  Many of them wear very detailed and over the top costumes.  I took more fan photos at the Steelers vs. Raiders game then I normally do in an entire season.

I hope you enjoy seeing the photos as much as I enjoyed taking them.  I’ve also included a few photos of other off field items that I thought was interesting.

Antonio Brown vs. DJ Hayden

Normally off the ball action doesn’t get much photography attention.  On this specific play, I was following Antonio Brown down the field snapping photos as he went.  I loved the intensity of both players in this picture.

By the way, Antonio vs. DJ wasn’t even a close match up.  Antonio had 17 catches for 284 yards.  He ran wild all over the field and had his way with DJ.

Rail To Trail Sunset

A few weeks ago, I borrowed a bike from a friend so that I could cover some serious ground on the Montour Trail.  My goal was to capture as many fall photos on this trail as I could before the sunset.

This photo was taken from a large bridge that crosses Chartiers Creek and runs past Valleybrook Golf Course in Washington County PA.  I liked the combination of the trail (leading lines), the golf course and the sunset.  What do you think?

DeAngelo Williams

Unfortunately, Le’Veon Bell got hurt today and had to be carted off the field.  That meant his back up, DeAngelo Williams played a good amount.  He was pretty good, but the entire offense didn’t play well.  Thus the Bengals remained undefended.

The weather was good.  My sideline pass was good.  The game was rather boring from my perspective.  Anyway, until next weekend when the Steelers are home against the Raiders, have a good week.

Overholt Distillery

Yesterday I explored the abandoned Overhold Distillery with a few fellow photographers (Dave Truxell, Brad Truxell, and Mike Criswell  -   see the photo below.).  I have no idea how long it’s been since the distillery produced its last batch, but it looks like it was a long time ago.

Unfortunately, the sky was an ugly solid gray all day and we got a little rain.  But we made the best of it and had a great time.  This photo is one of my favorites from the day.  The good news is that I got a bunch I liked, so I’ll have to share them with you later.  In addition, Brad, Dave and I stopped at Robinson Falls before we left the area.  I’ll have some of those pictures for you in the future as well.

Pioneer Square Station

MJ is out of town for very long business trip and I miss her dearly.  I can’t wait for her to get home next week and in the mean time, I’ll just keep missing her.

Tonight’s photo is from the Pioneer Square Station in downtown Seattle.  I took this last late last year when I was out there for work.  I had a few days to photograph the city and I made good use of my time.  I took this picture at around midnight.  The only people in the station were the police, the homeless and I.

Rotunda

It’s been a few years since I was in San Francisco.  But I’m still not done processing photos from that trip.  Sad, but true.  When you take as many photos as I do, it is easy to fall behind and I jump around a bunch when I am processing photos.  I never just process one trip all at once.  Anyway, today I had a chance to work on some processing and I decided to work on the SF trip.  As I was working on them, I finished this photo.  I honestly don’t even remember taking it, but I loved it.

This is looking straight up at the Palace of Fine Arts Theater rotunda ceiling.  I’ve never seen this perspective photographed before, but I’m sure its been done a 1,000 times before.  I hope you like it.

Notes:

·      Great game today between the University of Michigan and Michigan State University football teams.

·      I’ll be photographing the Steelers vs. Cardinals NFL game tomorrow.  Look for me on the sideline.  I’ll be the guy getting run over by 300-pound lineman.

Amazing View

Here is another photo from my Seattle trip last December.  I wasn’t out there for long (about 5 days), but I love it.  I got about 2 full days by myself to geek out and take all the photos I could fit into that time.

I spent about 4 full hours sitting at this site waiting for the perfect light.  I think I found it.  I hope you like it.

Mike Davis

I know he isn’t a household name and you’ve probably never heard of him before.  He played college football at the University of South Carolina and is a rookie for the San Francisco 49ers.   Regardless, I liked this action photo.

Scroll down to see a close up version of this, which I also like.

Krepps Covered Bridge

Yesterday, MJ and I went for a small drive through the countryside hoping to find a few cool spots to photograph the fall color change.  Unfortunately, the leaves haven’t really changed much here in southwestern Pennsylvania.  So we made lemonade with our lemons.  I took some pictures of this wonderful covered bridge instead.

Krepps’ bridge was built using the Kingpost design, which you can see well in this photo.  It’s a rather small covered bridge compared to most of them around us at only 24 feet long.  Like all of the covered bridges in this area, it is painted barn red.
